Work..work..work.....boy am I tired!

These last couple of days have been physically hard (I think my age is showing). We had new carpet installed throughout the house and I did not stop to think what that meant in terms of work for my husband and I. All the closets had to be cleaned out, clothes moved somewhere, bookcases and cabinets that would be moved by the installers had to be cleaned out. We took down the beds ourselves. Fortunately we have a dining room and our sewing room/study to put stuff in, and the installers had to play musical rooms with some of the furniture - but we got it done. Now, we have to put it all back in place (a lot of groaning going on here). The work is worth it though as the carpet looks great and feels sooooooo cushy. Our old carpet was 30 years old, original to the house when we built it. Time, don't you think, for new carpet!

One BIG bonus in all of this was I found a treasure - my baby quilt! Well its mine now, anyway, I think my mom made it for my oldest brother and since I am the youngest, it got passed down to me and I am claiming it. Momma told me the other day this was the first quilt she ever made, and she is a master quilter now. She mostly hand pieces and hand quilts and her work is superb. She made it from an airport wind sock (yellow fabric) and a GI Sheet (white fabric). This was done in 1946's, after WWII. She and Daddy were both Marines serving in Pearl Harbor and married when they were discharged. She gave me this quilt when I started my family as she wanted each of grandchildren to sleep under it. Sorry Joy and Cindy - but I kept it after and did not pass it on - you both had your turn laying on it at my house. (That's my new living room carpet underneath the quilt.)

We did the carpet thing last year and it almost killed us both. It took me weeks to get everything back to normal. I love the baby quilt.

Wow what a fabulous quilt and story to go with it!

Hope you're all back together now. We'll be needing new carpet before too much longer and I just groan at the thought of it all!

It is wonderful to have new carpet and it just seems so clean and fresh. Your mother must have started out gifted, as that is quite an accomplishment for a first quilt. Mine certainly wasn't like that one. It must be very special to her to have it so treasured by at least one of her children (or maybe more who are just waiting for their chance, lol).

What a treasure you found. Finding something like that is always fun. Once in a while I find things I forgot about. I guess I need to clean my closets more often!

Teresa, here is one reason why you don't want your images lifted from your blogg or website. The person that lifts it may use it for personal gain. http://craftilyeverafter.blogspot.com/2008/07/were-not-gonna-take-it.html
It is not a good feeling when someone uses your image for their own profit.
The other reason, and the most important one, is that the image belongs to the person that photographed it. It is their personal property. Think about it this way, if a very prominent painter had someone lift an image off of his website of a very well-known painting that he did, then that person had it reproduced as a print and sold it as their own, I'm sure you would agree that the image stealer would probably be facing a huge lawsuit brought forward by the artist. It is no different for anybody else who has had their image taken and used in that same manner. I hope this helps to convey where I was coming from.

My friend does photography as a little side business. She maintained a blog to update her customers about her happenings and also to showcase her work. After image after image was taken from her, she decided that having a blog is just not worth it for the anxiety alone. I don't know what course of action she will be taking but I do know that she has decided to discontinue her blog.
Go get that mammogram done. It's very important! Take fare.
Aloha!

What an adorable quilt and how lucky that you now own it! Do you ever show quilts that your mother has made recently?

The baby quilt is adorable. What memories your mother must have of making that quilt. It is a very interesting story.
