I am so disappointed that Bloglines is shutting down. I can't figure out google reader and how to get it to post only those blogs that have updates. I read a post, but yet it is still there and now I have close to 1000 items on my google reader.
Another problem...almost half of the blogs I like to read do not have the follower button that Google has to have. So what then, do I just not get to read those?
When I read a blog in the reader, I have to open that specific post to comment - and when I have tried to do that, I get an error message when I hit the comment button,
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH - why can't they just leave things alone? Bloglines worked really well for me.
What service do y'all use to track the blogs you follow and read. There has to be a way to only see those that have updated since the last time you read them?
Teresa I use the Google Reader and don't usually have problems with it. If you read a post on the reader scroll down a bit and it should lighten the type and stop counting it as unread. If that doesn't work up at the top there is a button that says "mark as read". Click on that and it will do the same thing. If you want to see the whole post and/or comment click on the title of the post and it should take you to the blog. You don't have to follow a blog to get it on your reader. On the left sidebar up towards the top is a box that says "add subscription". Type the name of the blog in there - the whole address. For instance if it was my blog I would type www.stitchinbythelake.blogspot.com and it will add it. Also you can sort the blogs if you want by checking the small box beside it in your reader and then up at the top click on label and name your folder. For instance I have a folder that says "coupons" for the blogs I read that list sales and coupons, one that says "quilt", one that says "cooking" etc. Hope this helps but if you have questions e-mail me and I'll try to help you! blessings, marlene
ReplyDeleteI'm on a MacBook and can subscribe to RSS feeds that send blogposts directly into my email box. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI imported mine from bloglines and marked the whole lot as read first up so then only the new ones showed up highlighted..........
ReplyDeleteyou don't need to have the follow button on a blog to follow it in reader.........in the top left corner I have an add subscription tab and you can paste the blog address in there..........
if I want to comment ona post I click on the post title and it opens the blog for me I want to comment on and comment as usual........
I too am very peeved with bloglines for closing........
I switched to Google Reader last weekend...once I got rid of the initial ones that showed up unread it's worked well. I'm actually liking it a lot..it seems to update quicker than Bloglines.
ReplyDeleteHey Mom!
ReplyDeleteI've had to switch to Google Reader as well. Bummer. But I do have it figured out. Want me to come over and show you? Or you can come over to my house!
Love you!
Jennie
I must admit, I pull up each blog and see if there is a new post. I never figured out Bloglines.
ReplyDeleteHi Teresa. I'm sorry you're having problems with google reader. That's what I use and I don't usually have any problems. You definitely don't have to have a blog that has the follow thing to be able to get blogs in google reader. In fact, I specifically don't follow blogs that have the follow because I subscribe to them in my google reader and it causes a double entry in my reader (I'm probably doing something wrong, but whatever.) Marlene has given you some great suggestions -- I hope they help!
