One of my treasures...
Don't you have a few things in your life that are just so very special to you? Of course, my faith and my family are at the top of my list of treasures in my life, but I am talking about material possessions now. Here is a picture of one of my treasures. It is a sewing basket that my mother made for me. She collects pine needles from our yard and weaves them into the most beautiful baskets. I have several that she has made, but this one is by far is my most treasured. I keep my hand quilting/sewing supplies in this basket and it gives me pleasure to have it close by. How about you....do you have a treasured item that you use in your sewing? Is there a story behind it, a gift made by a special friend or loved one - maybe something that a relative once used?
Your mom made that how cool is that! WOW!!!! I would treasure it too.
ReplyDeleteI have a bunch of fabric from my grandma and great grandma as well as my great grandma's sewing machine that I just adore.
That is beautiful! Your mother is very talented; I can see why you treasure it. I guess one thing I love, besides as you say, my faith and my family, is a redwork coverlet that my MIL gave me. It was give to her grandmother, Minnie Kirkland, by Minnie's friend, Jesse M. Tooke, in 1897.
ReplyDeleteWow that is made from pine needles???!!! That is one talented mother you have there! And tell her she can come to my house - our neighbor's pine needles cover our yard. Last weekend when the snow melted we raked up 10 garbage bags full of needles! She would be in heaven lol!
ReplyDeleteHi Theresa, thank you for stopping by over at Pieces and leaving such a nice comment. I see that we are ring sisters in the More Quilting ring *VBS*
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love your pine needle basket...my gosh....that IS a treasure. I had no idea people still worked pine needles. I think it's a lost art. You are one lucky gal! Big hugs, Finn
Wow...that is a great basket! What a treasure you have from your mother!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that gorgous basket is made out of pine needles! Do you have REALLY special pines in your yard?
ReplyDeleteBTW, since you wore your lovely thinble to work, you are certainly a member of my QuADD group! In fact you get high honors! - means you might want to share some fat quarters with the rest of us......
Good gracious is that basket incredible or what!>!?!?!? Pine needles! I am so impressed and would treasure it also.
ReplyDeleteThe basket is awesome! How special that will be for a long time to come. Thanks for stopping by my blog hearttohandquilter. I can't really think of something material that I treasure but I do treasure a mission trip that I took to an orphanage in Mexico. I hope to go back sometime in the next year.
ReplyDeleteYour Mother is an extremely talented woman! I am amazed by the quality of workmanship in that basket. It is a true treasure. Has she taught you how to make them?
ReplyDeleteOh my, your post reminds me that I have tucked away in a closet an old sewing box that belonged to one of my great or great great grandmothers. I should get it out and take another look. Thanks! Your basket is lovely. What a precious keepsake.
ReplyDeleteWow!!! Your sewing basket is amazing. I'm just overwhelmed that someone makes baskets out of pine needles. How wonderful that your mom made that for you.
ReplyDeletePS: love all your comments on my blog. Thanks!
