I recently purchased the Carol Doak book<a href="https://www.amazon.com/60-Fabulous-Paper-Pieced-Stars-National/dp/1644034026/ref=asc_df_1644034026/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=642064875315&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11724806214445633995&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1025649&hvtargid=pla-1943939340442&psc=1&mcid=fa06adac32523712a4dcbb40442d0d85"> <i>60 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Star</i></a> which includes patterns for 10 National Parks. This is a nice break for me, and I plan to do a star every month.</p><p>Below is my picture of the Denali National Park Star. This national park is located in Alaska and I decided to use the Alaskan flag colors to make the star. The park covers 6,000,000 acres of wild lands and has North America's highest peak at 20, 310 feet.</p><p>I have two grand children interested in working as park rangers, so hoping one of them does end up with that career and I can give them this quilt.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTW_n4oQnaW8Bq9KdESOg30rypf_ABW3bTRKYWT0Lj_HEGALHQwY8naLV5SQkzIoi7xsljT9F7wxmKeUg-NuVQ9XOMBSjXUozyGL_GDaDFgLH5arHlS6YWbceA3oDRRWfTXR_jSNLCu7hHPaToxYl-v1ga2eOckCJRTQZQvzkjmS7VDnyuVkpc3nl34Qqs/s1280/Denali%20National%20Park%20Star.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1242" data-original-width="1280" height="377" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTW_n4oQnaW8Bq9KdESOg30rypf_ABW3bTRKYWT0Lj_HEGALHQwY8naLV5SQkzIoi7xsljT9F7wxmKeUg-NuVQ9XOMBSjXUozyGL_GDaDFgLH5arHlS6YWbceA3oDRRWfTXR_jSNLCu7hHPaToxYl-v1ga2eOckCJRTQZQvzkjmS7VDnyuVkpc3nl34Qqs/w388-h377/Denali%20National%20Park%20Star.jpg" width="388" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">72 pieces</div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p>Teresahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09077658139465236292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6105359280239456038.post-57213949161454358052024-02-08T07:59:00.000-05:002024-02-08T07:59:27.335-05:00Delaford Progress<p> This morning I was able to sew on the border of Octagonal EPP pieces. This has been so much fun picking out the fabrics and riotous colors, but hopefully they will all blend together in the final quilt. Next up is a border of flowers and birds. I actually purchased this quilt pattern because I loved the center applique that I am getting ready to start. I think this is one of <a href="https://katrinahadjimichael.com.au/" target="_blank">Katrina Hadjimichael's</a> prettiest patterns. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYGIqAvD9VtOa_J1qkaL5IbCA97-ivCj-S7D9a8NepwMZrJze-1fEjoHde-wQYJbpNBJ9wcJhwSjgx1C6mZ3bjJBAkY6Bru5TLs0agJ_LP7BVPZqlr20leo0Bxw1GnqNdkdpkUo7KQKj-PIbfQdARIFFuVlP6Scyk5YF0U8HvrD6V1W3ft4ZQySXnNfKrF/s1280/October%201%20progress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="1129" height="393" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYGIqAvD9VtOa_J1qkaL5IbCA97-ivCj-S7D9a8NepwMZrJze-1fEjoHde-wQYJbpNBJ9wcJhwSjgx1C6mZ3bjJBAkY6Bru5TLs0agJ_LP7BVPZqlr20leo0Bxw1GnqNdkdpkUo7KQKj-PIbfQdARIFFuVlP6Scyk5YF0U8HvrD6V1W3ft4ZQySXnNfKrF/w346-h393/October%201%20progress.jpg" width="346" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I also have completed the Owl and Hare Hollow quilt top.....now to decide how to quilt it. I don't plan to hand quilt this one, and may just to a 1 1/2" cross hatch, but then I have also considered getting a long arm quilter to do a simple edge to edge. I don't want anything too fussy or fancible since the quilt is already very busy.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgifbZ1QJLc9s9eEaKaJ-bcdgGsuwBtEAd9_Y_VC8KsX8mhx4_vCRnOCm1QdOEbveOyM6I2ZCbxzUpbxpiVtdJMEqsZbdKGk0Hwcvq7vUI0CF3E-LpVtJuknSkqSr4E_voPlx8y0R5rcPAoRaOzDybIuPvQpRlaE0Lo0suDZBmCaCD_J2PBaiiTqPIPz8ly/s1541/Finished%20Quilt%20Top.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1541" data-original-width="1190" height="433" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgifbZ1QJLc9s9eEaKaJ-bcdgGsuwBtEAd9_Y_VC8KsX8mhx4_vCRnOCm1QdOEbveOyM6I2ZCbxzUpbxpiVtdJMEqsZbdKGk0Hwcvq7vUI0CF3E-LpVtJuknSkqSr4E_voPlx8y0R5rcPAoRaOzDybIuPvQpRlaE0Lo0suDZBmCaCD_J2PBaiiTqPIPz8ly/w334-h433/Finished%20Quilt%20Top.jpg" width="334" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><br /><p><br /></p>Teresahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09077658139465236292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6105359280239456038.post-3770394379459661602024-01-21T17:36:00.000-05:002024-01-21T17:36:17.220-05:00Red & White 9-Patch Round-up<p> </p><p>I actually made this quilt in 2002, but not sure I ever posted a picture of it on my blog. This was a block exchange I did with some friends in Texas where we swapped Red and White 9 patches. I did all the embroidery myself just picking a wide variety of patterns. The nutcracker was done by my dear friend Donna Kassan, who is an avid collector of Nutcrackers.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS2OlOD9BwvYKt5Tg1HE0Ha5e1LEEczLw4QO2keJvXhfHr_Re1aHocOXQKb75fbcwn0Qyi1f23rv2GmTVyR5eF1dmZcX_dRwhjpE1NAfEo0IvYr98G6fPmHpKmjKNSLNLt9Kh6YHTFJcZhZPYVOZC-b0guvKqsUxGcukxkJ4TRG0EmNxkRplBpttJNuDYz/s1327/Red%20and%20White%20Roundup%20bottom%20left.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; Its a bitter sweet moment when you take that last stitch, as Jane and I have spent a lot of quiet contemplative hours together in the early hours of the day when all is quiet. Some of the small 4 1/2" blocks had 40 - 50 pieces! This particular corner has 78 pieces Pushing and pulling a needle through all the layers of fabric and batting can even be painful and draw blood. Using a thimble in stab quilting just never worked of me. My "friend" became the little demitasse spoon that I covered in masking tape and used to push the needle down to the back and then from the underside, push it back to the top. Nothing fancy, but oh so greatly appreciated.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim6BW5XMWYksnIk9FIwjY2j8rc-rmQUCcmjlBulfyh0ae4I7Xvh-SZfElQnGnO9OI8yy9hUm4jOsjcp83sg91GTcrFH2FeiKKIQpldgNGPXjwHB7Ckz3zrGpiqdSQdnB10o6FYiDUEKjUJ3V3pQnZWL2p-41xHmkaGf8RRlbakNtl_F2jcujPCxen1Ft__/s1512/1-10-24%20spoon.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1340" data-original-width="1512" height="233" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim6BW5XMWYksnIk9FIwjY2j8rc-rmQUCcmjlBulfyh0ae4I7Xvh-SZfElQnGnO9OI8yy9hUm4jOsjcp83sg91GTcrFH2FeiKKIQpldgNGPXjwHB7Ckz3zrGpiqdSQdnB10o6FYiDUEKjUJ3V3pQnZWL2p-41xHmkaGf8RRlbakNtl_F2jcujPCxen1Ft__/w262-h233/1-10-24%20spoon.jpg" width="262" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;">And now she waits until I get the time to put a binding on her raw edges. I rough sketched the design for my un-pieced triangles, and I do mean rough sketched. I ask a good friend, Steve Baker of Sewendipitous, to try to redraw it for me and make it look better. He does beautiful graphic designs, and he did and I am so happy that he did. </p><p>Here is a corner block and a triangle block I completed today.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj480KG9GbVG47Rz8CbqxQekMVTENk7FsdeZLZCiHWTYO3DSGOyCKpixFYNS9U79WUHSxY6ow3fatoi_2x0jMZ_Cqh_Dsqk_9akGJ0vFlA1V84V9vocaRhh3MngiTMmFhMw1KxZO333leiK70_rAwVcDK-991TqQr2aoJhLJfKmkUVHsT9AwKU7X0Sneijo/s2016/quilting%20nov%2026a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2016" data-original-width="1512" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj480KG9GbVG47Rz8CbqxQekMVTENk7FsdeZLZCiHWTYO3DSGOyCKpixFYNS9U79WUHSxY6ow3fatoi_2x0jMZ_Cqh_Dsqk_9akGJ0vFlA1V84V9vocaRhh3MngiTMmFhMw1KxZO333leiK70_rAwVcDK-991TqQr2aoJhLJfKmkUVHsT9AwKU7X0Sneijo/s320/quilting%20nov%2026a.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtZEOe428LJwEtxhwm7s2ixgjeE28lVKemTeNJ8z4C7RDSuLhnZiiqSAct1eArB_GWIOeCgzEhK8J5swAqaBFuynXiVqhb8WPsVlDFWnoaP-hW20xCYL-zh6p130dIUllx7XR_q0JhwmlDnhckrxFAJ7YE7ygn62kbkjHrM_BLDULQ7AP3USXLjeVir47Y/s2016/quilting%20nov%2026b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2016" data-original-width="1512" height="388" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtZEOe428LJwEtxhwm7s2ixgjeE28lVKemTeNJ8z4C7RDSuLhnZiiqSAct1eArB_GWIOeCgzEhK8J5swAqaBFuynXiVqhb8WPsVlDFWnoaP-hW20xCYL-zh6p130dIUllx7XR_q0JhwmlDnhckrxFAJ7YE7ygn62kbkjHrM_BLDULQ7AP3USXLjeVir47Y/w291-h388/quilting%20nov%2026b.jpg" width="291" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>I also made a Scandinavian Christmas Ornament yesterday. I have only 22 more to go and then I can start on the borders. It actually fun deciding how to quilt each block although it is hard on the fingers. I have to masking tape my fingers, one on left hand that pulls the thread and one on the right hand that pushes the needle back up - Stab quilting. I can't really wear a thimble on the bottom hand, but I do wear a little leather thimble on the top hand finger that pushes the needle through.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; I am enjoying this project as it involves everything I love to do - Embroidery, Applique and English Paper Piecing. I got a late start, but that's ok - just enjoying the process. Here are the blocks have completed so far. </p><p>The little round flower block placed in the corner where four blocks meet was just a random orphan block that I had on my design wall. I like it there, kind of like a corner stone. If I decide to add this to my project, I will need to make it smaller. The blocks are currently 9 1/2" unfinished but are oversized according to the pattern. They will eventually be trimmed to 8 1/2" unfinished and 8" finished, and then the flower will be too big. Unless.............I decide to leave them at 9 1/2".</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKVLQq1yiMFOye-8Z1ZTD1bxe5vdUI1r1e-1v4J3GcJI-KdMN8JH4XlK-zJJLRbWG1Q2o7fT_OEEUd_M-IBIer3cyioJOVMzJdIy5yGmDqTJWev6ZXyhEVVZMA9BpLBt7BMcSk4jHhA1viSNi6C_o2cOmTMXhdSRkpoXb1FiKKC3BJfcYLSTRwsi4XDE5m/s1510/Parts%201%20and%202%20%20Sep%2024,2023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1470" data-original-width="1510" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKVLQq1yiMFOye-8Z1ZTD1bxe5vdUI1r1e-1v4J3GcJI-KdMN8JH4XlK-zJJLRbWG1Q2o7fT_OEEUd_M-IBIer3cyioJOVMzJdIy5yGmDqTJWev6ZXyhEVVZMA9BpLBt7BMcSk4jHhA1viSNi6C_o2cOmTMXhdSRkpoXb1FiKKC3BJfcYLSTRwsi4XDE5m/w439-h428/Parts%201%20and%202%20%20Sep%2024,2023.jpg" width="439" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Teresahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09077658139465236292noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6105359280239456038.post-23849549081719940302023-09-21T09:46:00.002-04:002023-09-21T09:46:43.921-04:00Dear Jane Quilting<p>I have finally started hand quilting my DJ Quilt. This is my second one to finish, the first I machine quilted a very simple cross hatch pattern with a little bit of design on the triangles. With this one I am hand quilting and using a different pattern for each block. I noticed in close up pictures of Jane Stickle's quilt, that is the way it is quilted. I read somewhere that 3 or 4 friends helped her do the quilting and I have told my friends I would let them quilt some on mine - but got no takers. I had a long arm quilter baste it together for me - so much easier (and better basting) than me trying to do it myself.</p><p>I am not using sashing in connecting the blocks, but rather sewing a border on each block and then trimming it to 5 1/2" square, which seems to me to be the way Jane Stickle did hers. She was one smart lady if you ask me, because if the blocks do not come out exactly right - you add the border then square them up - I do love this process.</p><p>I am enjoying the quilting but its going to take me longer to quilt it than it did to make the top - but hey, I am in no hurry. Below are pictures of some of the blocks I have quilted.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxZmVM7-JSuapThD5ZFUjcuiJX-y4KLVBFvpohbRR9kBBJrWL4pGNF6Sl-nQl0rmHCz9TtI-8c4sURfHBugZ4ZezKn9drHmPibC6h4lC8MTNCxkKtulnQ7KIn-u2Hf9neEZbLxHsZwDn1CWSQMdX3DIyvdoQuOoP0bg0MSHBbtdYZMVfhOr3YBxyQBXhf8/s2016/Quilting%202.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2016" data-original-width="1512" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxZmVM7-JSuapThD5ZFUjcuiJX-y4KLVBFvpohbRR9kBBJrWL4pGNF6Sl-nQl0rmHCz9TtI-8c4sURfHBugZ4ZezKn9drHmPibC6h4lC8MTNCxkKtulnQ7KIn-u2Hf9neEZbLxHsZwDn1CWSQMdX3DIyvdoQuOoP0bg0MSHBbtdYZMVfhOr3YBxyQBXhf8/s320/Quilting%202.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTLlHmZfsKsnp0p4ye68w2i2dYwtOGgCHQJ9jeTxh5MsD1tUR6P7nqeoCcfN2ALUUY2zOFyLpcZyt5wAQbUOYmd_WWz-f4UuKXfd_T4vpccH_Rtah3jl5QGt9WWpXQmYXIOKY9nsLdRIxZuGE89AbWi-fRfpZgEcOgaNW6Z-yGOkP2RoK7t-ee4t6OO_Je/s2016/Quilting%203.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2016" data-original-width="1512" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTLlHmZfsKsnp0p4ye68w2i2dYwtOGgCHQJ9jeTxh5MsD1tUR6P7nqeoCcfN2ALUUY2zOFyLpcZyt5wAQbUOYmd_WWz-f4UuKXfd_T4vpccH_Rtah3jl5QGt9WWpXQmYXIOKY9nsLdRIxZuGE89AbWi-fRfpZgEcOgaNW6Z-yGOkP2RoK7t-ee4t6OO_Je/s320/Quilting%203.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_VO8mISS1reUE57Neq6o4oDmaFixEXwn30Oy4K2F5Z-NbuuLe8w47yWGyF96VaVuPKtdOrLxcrRZq9yQJgkl18i7HhipI8XNbqng9B-kTM8V24M3QPVN0GsfdpAKasVEugGQLw270CN012zKZPz9EMWAYchz2XxhdF7hmPf7knqRMlXg094RI6UJpCumD/s2016/Quilting%204.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2016" data-original-width="1512" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_VO8mISS1reUE57Neq6o4oDmaFixEXwn30Oy4K2F5Z-NbuuLe8w47yWGyF96VaVuPKtdOrLxcrRZq9yQJgkl18i7HhipI8XNbqng9B-kTM8V24M3QPVN0GsfdpAKasVEugGQLw270CN012zKZPz9EMWAYchz2XxhdF7hmPf7knqRMlXg094RI6UJpCumD/s320/Quilting%204.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiPmV7V020Tr5if_2jz-yZ3S2HQY3Lg1sUGI_LNdv1yXrlWtez-8vTKMfFDRoNL79KYd8wwxO2LfLqowsJQdLZmJA-dnSU7Hv1eERBdsKx6wQhoNtS_NKEWwEndfQ5kwov6JSx_e6wrionWxOSrA3EsD1DwEyCl1QmUqQ7P_xYvTg6kmnNE_0Bh_Sx322O/s2016/Quilting%205.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2016" data-original-width="1512" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiPmV7V020Tr5if_2jz-yZ3S2HQY3Lg1sUGI_LNdv1yXrlWtez-8vTKMfFDRoNL79KYd8wwxO2LfLqowsJQdLZmJA-dnSU7Hv1eERBdsKx6wQhoNtS_NKEWwEndfQ5kwov6JSx_e6wrionWxOSrA3EsD1DwEyCl1QmUqQ7P_xYvTg6kmnNE_0Bh_Sx322O/s320/Quilting%205.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">And here's a picture of what is next in my hoop. I started with the center block, and am working in circles around that one. Thought I would get the ones in the center first as they can be the hardest since you have so much bulk to work with...with each round it gets a little closer to the quilt edge and easier to manage. This quilt is a little harder to quilt in that the blocks being so small and having so many pieces, there is a lot of seams to quilt through. Now all the hand work is done, and I just need to finish up the nine patches. I am considering adding a border of flowers of some kind to the top to make a "pillow cover" as my daughter, who saw my progress this week, said Hollis will probably want it as a bed cover for her twin bed. It will be wide enough, but right now it is going to be square, and I need to make it into a rectangle. Sigh, so most likely more applique to do - but then I love to applique.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-NjZ5YGxsD1JLdkGNAVPFsAuLOc49KIRhJKkjRnLpag8xa0ir3fmVRhQOXlUIJsCtLpWPOegMkIXbxFiHnraIzCEMic9dQyaCoo6fuAHJvp8YREkj7pj3v4oi70huZZD0GXZwvSTk-pX7IJT-82UhzNd3Il2QoOTI2mrYn9ISTBmKWbGsk8hp5LUnb671/s1421/Quilt%20progress%2007-10-2023%20-%202.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1405" data-original-width="1421" height="373" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-NjZ5YGxsD1JLdkGNAVPFsAuLOc49KIRhJKkjRnLpag8xa0ir3fmVRhQOXlUIJsCtLpWPOegMkIXbxFiHnraIzCEMic9dQyaCoo6fuAHJvp8YREkj7pj3v4oi70huZZD0GXZwvSTk-pX7IJT-82UhzNd3Il2QoOTI2mrYn9ISTBmKWbGsk8hp5LUnb671/w378-h373/Quilt%20progress%2007-10-2023%20-%202.jpg" width="378" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhLuJCroCXBhM7jjlGqbjcktPkFsQQJcMBG6mHI1N9Behmyn8MQiLsFTVkH3nzVS6jW-FBpP_wxAaQ4Egvw4iPg2keo403IA9fm18Lsoh2yENBU3hQENypoM3nlPcp8Eum75zYvd5M70RkYrRupjemYGqQg9jZB6yRpqF7B5-nWvPPNWQL4QuRKZY-s5DQ/s2016/Quilt%20progress%2007-10-2023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2016" data-original-width="1512" height="398" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhLuJCroCXBhM7jjlGqbjcktPkFsQQJcMBG6mHI1N9Behmyn8MQiLsFTVkH3nzVS6jW-FBpP_wxAaQ4Egvw4iPg2keo403IA9fm18Lsoh2yENBU3hQENypoM3nlPcp8Eum75zYvd5M70RkYrRupjemYGqQg9jZB6yRpqF7B5-nWvPPNWQL4QuRKZY-s5DQ/w299-h398/Quilt%20progress%2007-10-2023.jpg" width="299" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Teresahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09077658139465236292noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6105359280239456038.post-77859892239462428022023-07-03T05:42:00.002-04:002023-07-03T05:42:35.055-04:00Americana Sampler<p> I have finished my Americana Sampler quilt. It is her Big Girl quilt (she will be 5 next month) that I make after they are out of the crib and sleeping in a big girl bed. This is my layout design, but the flower designs and Sun Bonnet Sue are from EQ. The Butterfly blocks are from a book called Granny Quilt Decor by Darlene Zimmerman.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;">Below is a picture of the center. Once I baste the applique in place, I am securing it with a small blanket stitch using 50wt thread. I do not have the SBS blanket stitched yet. The SBS is 14 inches high and the buttefly blocks are 11 1/4" square. I will also embroider SBS some flowers in her hand.</span></div><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5kporDo_85FjWv8My3PMxGDoY-T79ZI0_9gH4nY0n269l5BjW1h89FN4eV-sdqTwysRzSmz4GGFncv24DmYouXrB7ZBusJBBmec0JAzTB93M7fWmQcXuAhoSLalbjd7-RkwB-2vPJ83e9yudAHXJPi523VtpcS931n6cVbV-5oXc0WkOLNaLyKlSOnSaf/s1280/Center.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="1219" height="402" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5kporDo_85FjWv8My3PMxGDoY-T79ZI0_9gH4nY0n269l5BjW1h89FN4eV-sdqTwysRzSmz4GGFncv24DmYouXrB7ZBusJBBmec0JAzTB93M7fWmQcXuAhoSLalbjd7-RkwB-2vPJ83e9yudAHXJPi523VtpcS931n6cVbV-5oXc0WkOLNaLyKlSOnSaf/w383-h402/Center.jpg" width="383" /></a></div><div><br /></div>There will be 8 flower blocks surrounding the center, using two different flower patterns.<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /><span style="text-align: left;">This is the first four blocks of the first pattern.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEVnI0osVIrNg-FUcHZ-Y0udqSzYfDlJnnJ0TY_5gXERF1ljgImOWHN1CXteM8mSrnRoLkGT3LlS2f7I9ls87kQqRecc6lOvjD2fuPNYQcfkXdKZFS8Q-isEuhfoUNPQlMUhazT0WPVjBjEWfOHevX6QNexnjlESEA0jVPX4IdGMSaqZoCWbabHbYpSLgS/s2012/Flower%201%20row.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="554" data-original-width="2012" height="146" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEVnI0osVIrNg-FUcHZ-Y0udqSzYfDlJnnJ0TY_5gXERF1ljgImOWHN1CXteM8mSrnRoLkGT3LlS2f7I9ls87kQqRecc6lOvjD2fuPNYQcfkXdKZFS8Q-isEuhfoUNPQlMUhazT0WPVjBjEWfOHevX6QNexnjlESEA0jVPX4IdGMSaqZoCWbabHbYpSLgS/w532-h146/Flower%201%20row.jpg" width="532" /></a></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I am still working on the next flower pattern, doing the blanket stitch applique:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHNv8-ND01yf9anALV8QcGmIrOMAeTZLessBNhDe2jFExyQk-ZCsPg5lxHAdqg0GN1c8ZnllDeDpFLkGKCrxsIjE2SskTBdnFMhN5CF9xJ093JWhdzc30oy-a8lD_8vHHsZZdPjDENavr04iUtQdPh61wQRBxMshhV8j42iWPLRgQVJUizl1CmcUxjv2Qp/s1303/Flower%202%20in%20proces.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1303" data-original-width="1257" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHNv8-ND01yf9anALV8QcGmIrOMAeTZLessBNhDe2jFExyQk-ZCsPg5lxHAdqg0GN1c8ZnllDeDpFLkGKCrxsIjE2SskTBdnFMhN5CF9xJ093JWhdzc30oy-a8lD_8vHHsZZdPjDENavr04iUtQdPh61wQRBxMshhV8j42iWPLRgQVJUizl1CmcUxjv2Qp/s320/Flower%202%20in%20proces.jpg" width="309" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Nine-patches, measuring 3 3/4" will be the background through the quilt with solid white blocks between the nine-patches. I enjoy doing things like this so was happy to try it out, especially since I am always on the lookout for new thread to try when hand quilting. I think this thread has been around awhile, at least I did find it on a few sites when I did a google search, but it is definitely new to me.</p><p> I received 100% Organic cotton fabric, bamboo batting and a very nice assortment of 30wt and 50wt Scanfil threads. Instructions to do a pattern using the 30 wt thread and the 50 wt thread, just to compare how quilting looked different using the different threads. I so enjoyed this project and do love the thread. I also used the 50 wt thread in my sewing machine to sew on the binding as well as hand hemming the panel. I am not sure it made that much difference, but he did say to ease off on the handwork. I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend though working on the Americana Sampler, and actually made some good progress. Yesterday the stitches came out and I am free now to drive and do handwork - but I see the doc again on Monday, and want to finish a hand quilting project before then just incase he puts me under restrictions again. :)<div><br /></div><div>Here are the Americana Sampler blocks I completed Friday through today:</div><div><br /></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKp9jjrWTGfeKmFAF8J_XxVgH883XDrdWSPRFkC-fMjYrC_JrQrLKCjc52z5c2G0vDi8TxWBbqe-fJekRcC34RRcLsIDC7GG9tL7-oSxcv17BuDWgLVyk892EN90mZYMCiEdakucXvD6_swovskLG_uSbYnoGrQMqJpoan9u_wFpUjbdVT6EIKXOO_zA/s1193/May%209%20-%202.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1193" data-original-width="860" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKp9jjrWTGfeKmFAF8J_XxVgH883XDrdWSPRFkC-fMjYrC_JrQrLKCjc52z5c2G0vDi8TxWBbqe-fJekRcC34RRcLsIDC7GG9tL7-oSxcv17BuDWgLVyk892EN90mZYMCiEdakucXvD6_swovskLG_uSbYnoGrQMqJpoan9u_wFpUjbdVT6EIKXOO_zA/s320/May%209%20-%202.jpg" width="231" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I had already completed the posy, but had to do the rail fence strip to finish it up. Well, I do, just have been neglecting it. So thought I would share the beginning steps of a quilt for my Granddaughter Hollis. Her birthday is October 18 and I do hope to have this quilt ready to give to her. I am thinking of hand quilting, but that will determine on when I get the top done. If I do, it will be big stitch and will only be around 65" square, so I might be able to get it done.</p><p>Hollis loves flowers and butterflies, so that is my theme. My inspiration for the quilt comes from two books: Granny Quilt Decor by Darlene Zimmerman and Rose Sampler Supreme by Rosemary Makhan.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUQJfMVEksthejuf4Pq639JZlzKMhklahgia_JGhRDY6WnZd97EW6JVEh9_EolJdI90RsxyvTuEby6gydF5ehk3EtH_48kQREx_5wZaxhlFHRf8yxg20XzlxVd_08zgHBAyisyJiZx4s5-joF2AwTlxTT8UrOWYnirhoFQ-jlT8o_UFPrP_98BDNaj_A/s1280/Granny%20Decor%20Book.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="960" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUQJfMVEksthejuf4Pq639JZlzKMhklahgia_JGhRDY6WnZd97EW6JVEh9_EolJdI90RsxyvTuEby6gydF5ehk3EtH_48kQREx_5wZaxhlFHRf8yxg20XzlxVd_08zgHBAyisyJiZx4s5-joF2AwTlxTT8UrOWYnirhoFQ-jlT8o_UFPrP_98BDNaj_A/s320/Granny%20Decor%20Book.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This book had several quilts that I liked and pulled different ideas from. I have tried and tried to figure out why I cannot respond to comments on my blog. I used to get an email when I received a comment and I simply responded to that email, but they just quit coming. I have checked my profile many times, and I have it marked to send me email comments and my email is correct - just not working. I have tried to contact blogger, and they do not respond to my questions.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div><br /><p><br /></p></div></div>Teresahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09077658139465236292noreply@blogger.com2
